David Tracy has announced that he is running for Judge for King County District Court, Southeast Division, Position #6. This newly created position covers a district that includes Renton, Kent, Maple Valley, Black Diamond, Covington, Auburn and Enumclaw.
David Tracy is experienced, respectful and fair.
Experience:
David Tracy has 6 years as a Municipal Court Judge, 3 years as a District Court Magistrate, 30 years as a Pro Tem Judge. He has owned and operated a law office in Renton for 30 years.
Respectful:
David Tracy's judicial philosophy is that everyone who comes before the court deserves to be treated respectfully and be given the opportunity to be heard. The courts belong to the people and Judges should help them understand the court process, their individual rights and the judgments and decisions a court makes.

EXPERIENCE
David Tracy refused to lift a no contact order on the motion of the girlfriend of the defendant so she could marry him. She later thanked him and told him that he helped her see a different and better direction for her life.
FAIR
David Tracy asked the prosecutor why a sentence recommendation was different than an earlier similar situation. When the prosecutor could not give a reason for a difference in sentencing, he imposed an equal sentence in the two cases..
PATIENCE
Being patient with a man whose medications were not working appropriately. He was the last person in the courtroom and stated his name was the sound of a tennis ball swirling around in a glass bowl which he then demonstrated. After telling him that he could not say that, David Tracy asked him if he would respond to Mr. Smith. He indicated "Yes". David Tracy advised him that he would have to be taken into custody to have him evaluated. He said "O.K." He then indicated that he did not like to have his arms twisted around behind his back because of a football injury. David Tracy asked him to remember that the police were his friend, not trying to hurt him but they did have to follow their procedures. He said "OK". Two weeks later he came back to court very apologetic and that his medications had needed to be adjusted.
UNDERSTANDING
David Tracy tried to learn Japanese as his long time girlfriend is Japanese. Her mother who was born in Japan lives with her and her son. Japanese is spoken at times in that household. He tried to learn Japanese as he wanted to be able to join in the conversations. He studied and studied and eventually learned enough Japanese that he felt comfortable in brief conversations on limited matters. Even when he was familiar with over 500 words he could only discuss tourist level issues. He certainly would not feel comfortable trying to understand the proceedings in a Japanese Court of Law. That experience strenghtened David Tracy's understanding of how difficult it must be to come to court with a command of the English language. David Tracy understands that interpreters are an essential mechanism in fair justice.
