The Life Of An Urban Soccer Mom
I love watching the urban rebel of the man on his bike riding in a cool outfit and weaving through traffic on the freeway. Ah the careless ease he moves back and forth through traffic getting there an hour before I do. He looks professional yet dangerous in his dress and demeanor.
I love seeing these guys on the freeway. Dawned in their leather jackets with their distressed laptop computer bags snug close to them in a fashionable and cool way that never works for me. Jamming down the open road of the interstate they haven't got a care.
As I drive up to them I glimpse design tattoos on his arm that give him just the right amount of flair without being obtrusive. Of course this guy has tattoos, he's a rebel and he just doesn't care. He probably bit a bullet while they were inking him.
I picture myself if I could live this life because boy I would want to. To jump on the back a classic motorcycle and run off into the sunset with a professional rebel. But alas when the picture comes to my head I see myself more in the carpool lane on a Yamaha ATV.
Alas I have chosen the life of the urban soccer mom. We are a proud race who barrel down the freeway so we aren't late for an oboe lesson or football game. My tattoo however is pretty cool. I got it from a box of cereal the other day and it really rocks, you can't beat Sponge bob.
My life is not for the squeamish. It takes a lot to do twenty loads of laundry a week and survive with soft skin. I drive on the open road and change lanes with skill to get my kids to guitar practice and dentist appointments. I am always ready with fruit snacks in my bag or an extra pony tail holder in assorted colors should an emergency arise.
Yes we are the proud, the many, the unafraid mothers of America who will go into battle over a parking spot or sit for hours to support a little league. We will put our own selves to the side to sell nuts at Christmas and love our children with all we have. We are a proud growing race that will live on to the next Mother's day knowing we are important, respected and most likely have a stain on our shirts.
So hats off to you the rebel man who passes me on the freeway of life every day. And secretly I know you are winking at me because you have a mother as well who supported you. In that little wink you say thank you for me being there for my kids. And while he passes me he is thankful he is not in the car with me listening to Teletubbies.
