Indianapolis 500 Tickets – John Andretti Joins Indy 500 Lineup for Andretti Autosport
The Indianapolis 500 is the biggest event of the year for racing fans across the nation, and this year's Memorial Day weekend extravaganza certainly won't disappoint. While the Indy 500 is still more than a month away from commencing, plans are already starting to fall into place for the 2010 installment of the great American race – and we're not just talking about Good Morning America host Robin Roberts taking the driver's seat in the pace car.
As deeply rooted as the Indianapolis 500 is in the motorsports industry, so also is one name: Andretti. From Mario to Michael to Marco and beyond, the Andrettis are royalty in the racing realm, and there will be another Andretti starting his engine at this year's Indianapolis race once again: John Andretti. The cousin of Andretti Autosport owner Michael Andretti, John will brace for his annual IndyCar cameo at the 2010 Indianapolis 500, leaving Andretti Autosport to field five cars at this year's big race.
47-year-old John Andretti will join the Andretti Autosport crew also comprised of No. 26 Marco Andretti, No. 37 Ryan Hunter-Reay, No. 11 Tony Kanaan and No. 7 Danica Patrick at this year's Indy 500 on May 30, and the five-car attack of the Andretti team is sure to be a top seller of Indianapolis 500 tickets for this year's main event.
Racing legend Richard Petty is teaming up with Window World and Andretti Autosport to field John Andretti's No. 43 car (the number is a throwback to Petty) for the 2010 Indy 500, which will mark the elder Andretti's 11th start in the famed Indianapolis race. In his 10 starts so far at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, John Andretti has placed in the top 10 four times, hoping this year to make it his fifth.
Speaking to Reuters about the opportunity to race in Indy once again, Andretti said, "It would be difficult to script a scenario any better than the one we have here. I feel like this is my best shot and I'm going to take full advantage of it." Andretti's best finish in Indianapolis was in 1991, when he finished in fifth place, and this year he hopes to take that famed No. 43 to the top for an unforgettable Memorial Day weekend race.
While John Andretti only occasionally double dips in both the NASCAR and IndyCar pools, the experienced driver has been on the track this year already for one of NASCAR's most prestigious races. Andretti's Window World stock car is slated to make a few appearances in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series this year, though his only race so far this season was at the Daytona 500, where he finished in 38th position after an accident.
Looking now to Indianapolis to make an impact on the May 30th IndyCar race, John Andretti will start his engine one more time at the Indianapolis 500 amongst the greatest drivers in the world. Describing his Indy 500 cameo as the "perfect situation," Andretti said to Fox News, "I can't wait to get in the car and get to work. May can't get here soon enough."
